woodland conservation and projects

There is a certain amount of management, which needs to happen when running a woodland, for conservation and wildlife, not to mention safety and wood production.

Past projects have included the “cleaning” of an area with young Oaks, and the natural regeneration of a 300m2 area previously inhabited by Norwegian Spruce, which is now surrounded by deer fence and rabbit fence to protect the new shoots. This has been done over three years and the first year plot is now ready for the fences to come down. The area cleared in the winter of 2010/2011 has also been replanted with 500 hazel trees.

We now have a hardstanding car park with beautiful double gates which are slowly blending in with the woodland.

Future projects include disabled access and toilet facilities, further tree felling to allow for regeneration and creation of new coppice areas.
